Glenmore Elementary School Visits The Learning Garden

Glenmore Elementary visits the UBC Okanagan Learning Garden to learn about School Gardens, Sustainability, Local Food, Rainfall in the Okanagan, The Three Sisters (ancient growing practice) and Local Native Plants (thanks to Gwen and Simone, Community Garden/Water Conservation Experts)

Where the Sidewalk Ends

There is a place where the sidewalk ends
And before the street begins,
And there the grass grows soft and white,
And there the sun burns crimson bright,
And there the moon-bird rests from his flight
To cool in the peppermint wind.





Let us leave this place where the smoke blows black
And the dark street winds and bends.
Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow
We shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And watch where the chalk-white arrows go
To the place where the sidewalk ends.

Husky on the Highway



Husky on the Highway

On the highway above Peachland
I saw a Husky in a pickup truck.

The pickup truck was a GMC,
it was green;
the road was crowded
with SUVs.

The suburbs flashed past.
The Husky stood tall on its paws
aiming its nose
into the wind
like the truck had nothing to do with it,

flying above the orchards,
the wide blue lake
below him.
